Warren at a glance

The Town of Warren says it was settled in 1737 as part of Kent, organized as the Society of East Greenwich in 1750 with a church founded in 1756, and incorporated as its own town in 1786. It has been an agricultural town for most of its history and still has working farms. The population at the 2020 census was 1,351, and the town notes that many second home residents add to that count. Government is a Board of Selectmen, Town Meeting and Board of Finance. Warren is one of the three towns on Lake Waramaug, sits on the Lake Waramaug Authority with Washington and Kent, and its town beach on the lake is for residents, taxpayers and their guests.

According to the town, Warren is part of Regional School District 20: pre-K through grade 5 attend Warren Elementary School, grades 6 to 8 attend Plumb Hill Middle School, and grades 9 to 12 attend Lakeview High School. Confirm the current attendance pattern with the district before you rely on it, because regional districts revise them.

The Tax Collector's page lists the mill rate for fiscal year 2025 to 2026 at 12.75, unchanged from the prior year and down from 14.15 in 2022 to 2023. Warren Town Beach on the lake is open Memorial Day through Labor Day to Warren residents, taxpayers and their guests, with vehicle stickers checked at the gate, according to the Lake Waramaug Association. The lake's boat rules, including inspection of every motorboat at the Washington Town Ramp and the decontamination program that began in April 2026, are in Lake Waramaug for a second home.

Warren sits in Litchfield County rather than on Candlewood, but Connecticut transaction law does not change by town. These are the statewide rules that catch people out, whichever side of the county line the house is on.
